Plaid Cymru has said that visitors to the Champion’s League final in Cardiff will see that Wales is a world-class location for major sporting events, Plaid Cymru’s Cardiff West candidate Michael Deem has said.

Michael Deem said that Plaid Cymru would make more of Wales’ place as a world-class venue for major sporting events, and would work with sports associations and the tourist industry to identify other opportunities for Wales to act as hosts for global events, such as the Tour de France.

Plaid Cymru Cardiff West candidate Michael Deem said:

“Visitors to Cardiff for the Champion’s League final will see that Wales is a world-class venue for major sporting events. We have a track record of holding really successful events, such as the Rugby World Cup, the Ashes, and the Ryder Cup.

“These events showcase the best that our nation has to offer, boosts our tourism and contributes millions of pounds to our economy. The Ryder Cup brought almost £75 million of investment into the south east of Wales, and the Champion’s League final is sure to bring a similar boost to the economy.

“As Wales begins to contemplate life outside the European Union, Plaid Cymru will actively seek out opportunities to bid for more major events to come to Wales. Plaid Cymru will showcase Wales around the world, celebrate our incredible cities and venues, and we will put in place a proper legacy programme so that the economic and cultural benefits will last for generations. Sport brings people together, and the legacy of a successful sporting events stretches far beyond the final whistle.

“If you’re interested in putting Wales on the map in this election you must vote Plaid Cymru. Whichever team you support, get behind Team Wales in this election and vote for Plaid.”
