Plaid Cymru candidate for Aberafan and leading candidate on South Wales West regional list
A former president of Aberystwyth Guild of Students, Bethan Jenkins was elected as a Plaid AM for South Wales West in 2007. During her time in office, she has led a series of high-profile campaigns, including achieving the £1m framework to help those with eating disorders.
She played a significant role in helping to restore the pensions of 700 former Visteon car workers from the Swansea area following the collapse of the company in 2009. She is a prominent campaigner against opencast mining, and is currently involved in fighting to save jobs at the Tata steel plant in Port Talbot.
She changed the provision of financial education in Wales with a private members’ Bill in this Assembly, and she has also fought to keep open care homes and schools threatened with closure by local authorities. She is interested in economic development, international affairs, women's rights, industrial heritage, the safeguarding of local services, and eating disorder provision in Wales.
