Plaid Cymru leader challenges First Minister over Labour’s failure to deliver

Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood has challenged the First Minister on his government’s failure to deliver tangible benefits through devolution.
She said that devolution has more to offer the people of Wales, but said that due to Labour’s failure to deliver people perceive no difference to their lives or to the quality of public services.
She referred to criticisms made of the Welsh Government by the former Secretary of State for Wales Ron Davies who said that ministers need to ask themselves difficult questions about delivery.
Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood said:
“Governing ourselves is a victory in itself; no country has ever governed another well.
“But the Welsh Government is a different institution to the National Assembly.
“Devolution has more to offer Wales, and this is not as good as it gets.
“The Labour government has presided over not so much a decade of delivery, but a decade of complacency. We need a country where there is a premium on self-government.
“Making our own decisions is the essential first step, and Plaid Cymru is proud that Wales has taken that step.
“But the next step is realising that premium.
“Being a Welsh citizen should result in a public service bonus- a devolution dividend.”
She challenged the First Minister to improve its performance on key issues such as health, education and the economy, and warned: “if we approach the end of the term and this shows no sign of happening, will you accept and admit that Wales needs a change of government?”
